Our dinner menu has been set for the Natural Hair Community Our Crowning Glory Meet & Greet June 14, 2013  from 6-9pm at the New Orleans School of Cooking.  Tickets will be available 12/24/12 at Eventbrite.com, tickets for the actual meet up on June 15th from 1-5pm at the Wyndham Riverfront are now on available at Eventbrite.com for $15 per person

The price is $60 per person for the Meet & Greet Dinner which includes: Cocktails, 2 hour cooking demonstration, 4 course dinner and recipes of the menu prepared by our chef.   Menu is as follows:

Soup: Corn and Crab Bisque
Appetizer: Petite Crab Cake
Entrée: Catch of the Day with Seafood Stuffing & Lemon Butter Caper Sauce, Garlic mashed potatoes & Seasonal vegetables
Dessert:   White Chocolate Bread Pudding

Natural Hair Community Crowning Glory Meet up June 14-16, 2013

I wanted to just confirm some thing the hotel rooms and the $114 is EARLY BIRD PRICING….I have a block on 30 rooms, many of you have confirmed your hotel with me. Those 30 rooms are confirmed at $114, if there are overflow and you want a room, I can get you rooms at a slightly higher rate if you want to be in the Meet Up location for convenience, that rate is $149….THOSE WHO CONFIRMED WITH ME WILL GET THE EARLY BIRD PRICING. I think that is only fair. I am still working with other hotels trying to get good pricing.  Again the event dates June 14-16, 2013.

Interview with Co-Founder & Editor of ISIS Mag!!

Tell us a little about yourself, where are you from?

My name is Linda Graham, I’m 21 and I am the Co-Founder and Editor of ISIS Mag who lives in London England.

How long have you been Natural? Did you transition or big chop? What lead to your decision to become Natural?

I have been natural for 3 years now and I’m loving it 24/7! I kinda did the transition and the big chop. I was scared to do the big chop straight away, in fact, I didn’t even know what the big chop was until I realised that YouTube had videos relating to hair (yes, I’m a late bloomer for EVERYTHING!)  I decided to do the transition thing for a year and after my A-levels (British College) I decided to cut my hair myself after months of my mum snipping away at my permed hair. I was so frustrated, I just wanted to be natural and I didn’t even care about having short hair or resembling a boy!

What lead to your decision to become Natural?

I was tired of perming and I always admired ladies with afro textured hair- it intrigued me. Apart from that, when I was 17  I had a growing interest in ancient African history and most of the books I read showed stunning images of women who were rulers, mothers, princesses in Africa, predominantly with natural hair. I wanted to look like them!

What is your hair routine like?

My hair routine was a mess because of university (College). It was predominantly in protective styles but now I wash it every 2 weeks, oil my scalp every 3 days and spray my hair with water every day if I can (if in protective style). My hair loves water, OH and essential oils…

What made you create ISIS Magazine?

I Co-Founded ISIS Magazine with the Creative Director, Nathaniel Nwosu and we felt that a natural hair magazine which focused on holistic health was needed because nobody seemed to give natural hair the attention it deserved within the printed media industry, especially in London. We wanted every woman and man to realise that natural hair and beauty can be in print just like Vogue, Vanity Fair or Essence and still look amazing.

Are you products available in retail locations in the UK & the US?

We have distributional outlets in the UK and Japan but unfortunately not in the US. We couldn’t find any natural hair salons or shops who we thought might want to stock a magazine with Afro textured hair content back to back! America’s is huge in comparison to Great Britain!

One more question…What advice do you have for newly naturals?

Don’t follow your friend’s natural hair regime. Find what YOUR hair loves and stick to it. Always remember, just how women want consistency in their partners and relationships, our  hair wants the same too!

Natural Hair Community Meet Up June 14-16, 2013

I am pleased to announce that I am working on a Meet-Up for the Natural Hair Community and of course you all are invited!!! The dates are June 14-16, 2013 in New Orleans my hometown!! I am still in the planning stages but I would love to meet each & every one of you.

I have vendors, gift bags and we will be touring New Orleans on the 14th, the actual meet up will be on June 15th.  In the evening of the 15th, we will be taking a Jazz Dinner Cruise down the Mighty Mississippi.  I am going to get a block of rooms for those of you who are travelling from out-of-town and in March the tickets will be available on Eventbrite.
