Water Challenge

I’m challenging all readers of this blog to participate in the Water Challenge with me.  You need water to keep moisture in your natural hair, but it will hydrate your body, help to remove toxins from your body.

This is re-posted from Curly Demure

***I totally plagerized this from HAT, HAT’s H20 Challenge was so well put together and I really respected the wording…. some changes were made but pretty much it is the same****

It’s important to keep the hair moisturized and drinking water moisturizes our skin and hair from the inside out.  Drinking half your body weight or 8 to 10 glasses (8 ounce serving) of water…  With that said, Your daily goal is to drink half your weight in ounces of water NOT TO EXCEED 90 oz for women and 100 oz for men.   You take the amount that you weigh and divide that by two. For example if you weigh 135 lbs, you need to drink at least 67.5 oz per day. If your weight exceeds that of 90 oz. then just cap your water intake at 90.  . Reasons to DRINK MORE WATER:

  1. The best shampoos and conditioners for your hair cannot do what water can do for your hair. You can cover your hair with the products but if you do not include the proper amounts of water in your diet, your hair can become dull and brittle, which can lead to hair loss. Water can make hair strong and give it internal moisture in the follicle.
  2. Water is the main source of energy for all cells in the body. This also includes the cells that promote hair growth. Drinking water can provide the energy to the cells in your hair to help it grow long and strong.
  3. The roots and scalp have many energy sensitive and photosensitive nerve endings that transmit and receive signals. Water supplies energy to those nerve endings so they become more responsive. This also enhances the natural vitality of the hair roots and scalp.  Toxins can travel in the cells and reach the hair, which can be very damaging. This can make hair brittle and break. Water can remove those toxins through the kidneys.
  4. Drinking water flushes your body of toxins, chemicals, and impurities that stifle your hair growth and disrupt your hormone and enzyme imbalances. Water also transports the important nutrients your body needs throughout your body.
  5. Water is the best moisturizer for the hair. Drinking enough water each day can benefit the hair from the inside out. Not only does it moisturize the hair but your hair is less likely break when it is properly hydrated.
  6. Hair is 10 percent water. When you drink enough water to maintain the 10 percent of water in the hair, the hair does not become brittle and break. It also helps the hair absorb vitamins and nutrients it needs to grow.
  7. Did you know that if you aren’t properly hydrated, vitamins that you take are taken in vain?  Water will help circulation of the vitamins in your body and will carry the vitamins to your hair follicles, which in turn will stimulate hair growth and increase hair growth speed. Not drinking enough water might affect hair growth speed in a negative way.

For those who hate the taste of water or who do not like to drink water, try adding some fresh lemon, lime or your favorite fresh or frozen fruit to the water and let it sit for a while.

Did you know that if you are dehydrated, your hair is probably dehydrated as well? Besides our skin, our hair is the second most exposed part of our body and it is often affected by the air, wind and sun. These elements can and usually do wreak havoc on our delicate tresses. Water helps our hair internally in two ways: it provides transportation for the nutrients and it makes the hair pliable, making it less prone to breakage. When your hair is wet it is 100% moisturized. Drinking water is not a direct correlation to hair growth. However, the lack of water can be detrimental to any progress your hair has made. Hydrated hair gives you the greatest chance of retaining length.

Water makes up approximately one fourth of the weight of a strand of hair and when hair has the proper amount of water, it will respond by being supple, and shiny. The human body is generally composed of approximately 60-80% water.  When deprived of adequate water to sustain cell health and reproduction, the body becomes dehydrated, which directly impacts hair growth.

You can be sucking down fistful of hair vitamins and related hair growth supplements, but if you are not downing enough water to meet your bodies daily minimal levels, your cells that drive hair growth will not even reproduce and your hair will become dry.

This Challenge starts  January 9, 2012 and ends Febuary 1st 2012We will be discussing biweekly our porgress and results on Wednesdays @ 7pm…. some changes were made but pretty much it is the same****
